1935, Struck Silver (Rim punch-BAYER-HAUPTMÜNZ-AMT), 35mm, 20.0g., VZ, RRR

Provenance: The Goodman Collection.

OBVERSE: Hermann Göring bust 3/4 right and wearing his Jäger hat as hunting master. Periphery inscription reads "Reichs-Jägermeister-Hermann Göring,", Dated 1935.

REVERSE: Stag, owl on stele marked "Für Nature Schutz" - For Protection of Nature all resting on flowered exergue.

This is one of very few Göring portrait medals today. Goetz made three medals of Göring and this is the only one not military related. It is very likely that Goetz created the obverse portrait image from this archive image of Göring with his hunting falcon. With Karl not being a Party Member, I honestly don't believe Karl hung out with this powerful and distasteful Third Reichster. As with the Hitler medals created by Goetz under Party pressure, Karl was probably given an image to use as a reference.

I don't think Goetz's heart was into creating this piece as he chose to mule the reverse from an earlier 1910 medal, K-69, that commemorated the National Park Society. Goetz did remove the "Parke E-V" from the stele in this struck and reduced form of the original. Could this have been for design reasons or was he telling us that this did not commemorate a "Park" system but the establishment of a private hunting preserve for the privileged of the Party as evidenced below?

Okay, I digress...as distasteful as this character was, Goetz still put out a beautiful medal, and a RARE one too!! A very difficult piece to obtain due to it being cross-collected by Goetz and Third Reich collectors. This piece is highly sought after as proven by past auction hammer prices. For instance, Coin Galleries February, 2004 had an example go for $480 and the more recent Moeller 41, Boettcher Collection of several years ago brought 336 EURO ($445)! I see a couple light ticks on this matte finished piece and therefore grade it as VZ...but you decide by taking a closer look at the high-res example of the reverse below. RESERVE is set conservatively below either of the auction hammer prices I have referenced.
