K-217 ELECTION FOR THE GERMAN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

(Wahl zur deutschen Nationalversammlung)

1919, Bronze, 58.1mm, 77.6g., ST/Gussfrisch

Obverse: A lady, voting for the first time, places her choice into a ballot box; a depressed looking man walks away. In background, Social Democrats carry posters inscribed, "Wahltag - Zahltag" (Election day - Pay day).

Reverse: A heavy workman's arm reaches out to crush the Kaiser's crown, as a pillar inscribed, "18 Januar 1871" (Symbolic of the foundation of the German Empire) collapses. Another hand, representing Democracy, retrieves the broken sceptre. Dated, Jan. 19, 1919.

A beautiful and fresh example of this piece. As cast!
